Darker nights, dewy mornings and the golden hillside are all signs of the end of summer. One other sight lets Anchorage know fall is coming; Intersections populated with Firefighters and their boots, raising money and hopes for Jerry’s kids.
What started out in Boston in 1955 with a small group of Firefighters trying to raise money to help a friend with two afflicted children has grown into an army that has set its’ mind to one thing. (more…)

The Anchorage Fire Department is not just about responding to incidents after they have happened, but has looked for ways to actively prevent fires, injuries, and illness in the community. In 2005, a partnership was formed between AFD and SafeKids Alaska to enhance injury prevention for Anchorage’s children. (more…)

Did you know?
According to the United States Fire Administration, cooking is the leading cause of fires and fire injuries in structures. Not surprisingly, the majority of these fires start around dinnertime, with a smaller peak around lunchtime. The leading cause of these fires is careless or unattended cooking, with grease, oils and fats the most probably ignition material. (more…)
