KTUU Channel 2 \”Firefighters’ Union battles Mayor, Chief over Jewel Lake ambulance 12/30/09\”
Firefighters are fortunate here in Anchorage to receive overwhelming support from the public in regards to their public safety. The voters have proven this by passing almost all Fire Bonds in the last 10 years. In turn we have taken this support and created a proactive department that delivers some of the best pre-hospital care in the country. Our cardiac save rate continues to be one of the best in the US, as studies have ranked Seattle and Anchorage as the nations best in this category. Because of this we have been asked to participate is cutting edge medical studies. Companies have selected Anchorage to be a part of trial programs using our input to solidify the effectiveness of new innovative cardiac interventions. Adding an ambulance in the Southwest Anchorage would help us meet an increased need for service. (more…)

Anchorage Fire Station 1 is located in downtown Anchorage and is primarily responsible for fire and emergency medical responses in the Downtown, Government Hill, and Fairview communities. Fire Station 1 also serves the Port of Anchorage along with the Ship Creek Industrial areas. (more…)

With the arrival of daylight savings time and the holidays, you probably have been going around the house recently setting your clocks back and putting up decorations. But this is also a great time to take a couple minutes and ensure that your smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors are working properly, and at the very least, you should change the batteries out. On October 24th, the Anchorage Fire Fighters held their first Fire Ops 101 session. Fire Ops 101 is a program that takes elected officials, members of the media, and local business leaders and exposes them to some of the emergency operations firefighters may experience during a 24-hour shift. This year, 24 people had the opportunity to don protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus to take part in four different scenarios: the extrication of a patient from a motor vehicle accident, reviving the victim of a cardiac arrest, entering a burning room, and climbing an aerial ladder to rescue a victim.
